Mesotherapy, also referred to as “biorevitalization” or “biorejuvenation”, is a nonsurgical procedure used to tackle problems such as excess weight, cellulite, stretchmark, and skin ageing. It contains high concentrations of minerals, vitamins, enzymes, hormones, and FDA approved pharmaceuticals. It’s usually administered as injections one to four millimetres deep on the areas of interest.
Mesotherapy consists of multiple micro-injections of liquid made of hyaluronic acid, vitamins A, C and E as well as minerals. Hyaluronic acid, the main ingredient of mesotherapy injections, is a compound naturally present in the skin and acts like a sponge by binding water to the skin. One molecule of hyaluronic acid is capable of binding to approximately 250 molecules of water. This mechanism then moisturizes and smoothes the skin, in addition to stimulating the formation of collagen and elastin fibers.
Mesotherapy gives your skin a more youthful and moisturized appearance. Expected results range from the reduction of fine wrinkles to the improvement of skin tone and facial contours.
The procedure is performed with a very fine needle and is virtually painless. For more sensitive patients, a local anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area one hour before the procedure. After the injections, small bumps resembling water drops placed under the skin are visible. They gradually disappear over a period of approximately 24-28 hours and do not require any special attention.
Mesotherapy is a French treatment originally developed to inject medicine into subcutaneous fat, it is now widely used for skin rejuvenation, but is a different procedure to microneedling entirely.
Both mesotherapy and microneedling involve needling techniques; however, they differ in terms of needle length, application, depth of penetration, speed of delivery and the skin conditions they treat.
Though needling treatments might sound scary to some, they’ve become star services for many therapists and cosmetic practitioners, owing to the impressive results they can achieve while remaining non-surgical.
While both microneedling and mesotherapy work by triggering a response in the lower layers of the skin, they’re each suited to different concerns, so you could choose which treatment to invest in depending on the most common indications among your clients.
Mesotherapy is best-suited for skin issues that present from within the lower layers of the skin, such as dehydration and advanced ageing, because a targeted active solution is being injected as the needle is penetrating the skin.
Mesotherapy can also be used to tackle superficial fat and cellulite on the body, with therapists able to inject solutions that help break down fat at around 4mm.
Many mesotherapy solutions have a hyaluronic acid base for this reason, infusing hydration for a plumping glow from deep within the skin.
