What is Titan?

The Titan Procedure™ is a safe, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source to tighten skin and reverse the signs of aging. The Titan™ heats the dermis to cause collagen contraction while preserving the epidermis through continuous cooling. In addition, Titan can stimulate long-term collagen rebuilding that leaves patients with younger looking skin.

The Titan Procedure treats lax and redundant skin throughout the body – including the abdomen, thighs and underarms – and is also used to tone, lift and tighten skin on the face and neck.

How Does It Work?

The Titan emits specified light that causes dermal heating (deep within the skin) and is absorbed by water in the skin, where the light energy is converted to heat.

Does It Hurt?

Unlike other tissue tightening devices such as Thermage which can be painful enough to require sedation and anesthetic, patients are amazed by the sensation of the Titan. During a matter of seconds the Titan handpiece slowly warms then cools the targeted area. Patients should note that because Titan technology is completely different, the feeling of the Titan energy pulse is nothing like that of other lasers such as hair reduction or vein therapy.

What Areas Does the Titan Treat?

The Titan can restore the firm, taut appearance of youth to virtually any area of the body displaying skin laxity. The best results can be seen on areas of sagging from age, sun damage, environmental factors, and weight gain followed by weight loss. Think of it as an anti-sag, not anti-flab, corrector. Areas with fatty deposits and/or poor muscle tone are not usually good responders to Titan treatment.

How Many Treatments Are Necessary?

In order to achieve your desired tightening, whether on the jowls, eyelids, neck, or abdomen, you will most likely need to have three treatments. Treatments are scheduled one month apart. Most patients notice some immediate results, especially after the second and third treatments. Your skin will continue to tighten for some time following your final treatment, with the most dramatic results being seen three to six months later.

How does the Titan Work?

Titan utilizes a safe, infrared light to heat the dermis well below the skin’s surface. This heating can cause immediate collagen contraction. During the procedure, the skin’s surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece.

After the procedure, new collagen growth results in further tightening and the development of a more youthful complexion with less lines, folds or looseness of the skin.

The Titan Difference

Titan employs light energy because it provides a more uniform distribution of energy for heating the deep dermis than other energy sources such as RF (radio frequency).

What areas respond best to the Titan procedure?

Patients have been successfully treated on many areas of the body where skin is lax. Loose skin on the abdomen, back of the upper arm, along the jaw line and under the chin have responded particularly well to the procedure.

Who can be treated?

Since the titan procedure is heating tissue under the skin’s surface, patients of any skin type can be treated. Men and women of all ages have been successfully treated.

How many treatments will I need?

A single treatment has produced very good results for some patients; however, it is best to assume that three of four treatments will produce the results you desire. Dr. Powell and the professional staff will advise you as to the number and frequency of treatments recommended for optimal results.

What happens after the treatment? Are there any side effects?

Immediately following the treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. Both should dissipate within a few hours. Consult with Dr. Powell or the professional staff for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

When will I see results?

Some patients see results immediately. However, for most patients, the results are gradual over a three to six month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens.

What do treatments feel like?

With each Titan pulse, you will feel a brief heating sensation. Some patients are more comfortable taking a mild pain reliever before hand. Many patients are comfortable without anything. Dr. Powell or the professional staff will advise you.

Has the Titan been tested and approved?

The Titan has been carefully studies in clinics around the world. It is cleared for the treatment of wrinkles in Europe and for general dermatologic use in Canada. In the US, it cleared for topical heating to increase local tissue temperatures and circulation. An additional 510(k) clearance is pending in the US for the treatment of wrinkles.

How much does the Titan treatment cost.

Like all our other treatments, the cost depends on the extent of the area to be treated. Titan treatments cost less than and are less painful than Thermage and are less invasive than incisional plastic surgical procedures.
